The mission of the Barnes County Corrections Facility is to protect the public by maintaining proper custody of offenders sentenced by a court of law or being detained for criminal violations and waiting an initial appearance before a court of law; to provide a safe and healthy environment for all staff and inmates; and to offer work, education and treatment programs when possible, encouraging inmates to make the needed changes to be law-abiding and successful in society.Organizational History
The Barnes County Correctional Center, herein referred to as "BCCC", is regulated by the North Dakota Century Code Chapter 12-44.1 and North Dakota Correctional Facility Standards. The BCCC is classified as a "Grade One" facility and is inspected each year by the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
The BCCC was opened in September 2021 with a capacity of 46 inmates and is located 2371 7th St SE, Valley City, North Dakota.
The facility houses sentenced and non-sentenced adult men and women from local and surrounding communities.
The operations of the correctional center are mandated by the Sheriff of Barnes County and the Barnes County Commission.
The facility currently has a staff of 12 full time officers in addition to the administrator.
Qualifications of Correctional Officers: All officers attend a 120 hour course of study approved by the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations. Officers must also be certified in first aid and CPR. The officers are required to continue their training hours by attending forty hours of additional training every three years from the date of their original eighty hours of training. The officers are also given in-house training on topics related to the jails duties and policies.Administration Staff
