Highway Department
The Barnes County Highway Department is responsible for the efficient planning, design, construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and culverts within the County of Barnes. The Department provides for the overall management, direction, coordination and budgeting for approximately 330 miles of County black top and gravel roads. There are 20 full-time employees and 3 part-time seasonal employees on staff.

Barnes County is now an active member of the LoadPass Permit System.
For travel on Barnes County Roads, please purchase over size, over weight permits directly through LoadPass Permit System at https://permits.loadpasspermits.com/Account/Login . If you are a user or subscriber in LoadPass and you wish to recieve notifications directly from Barnes County about changing road information, please go to your profile and select them in your notifications group.

Spring Load Restrictions will be lifted effective 7AM on Tuesday May 7th from Barnes County Roads with the exception of Barnes County 17s (Old #1) and Barnes County 27s (Peak Road).
