Marriage License
To obtain a Marriage License in Barnes County, you must apply for a Marriage License at the Office of County Recorder on the second floor in the Barnes County Courthouse.
Office of the County Recorder
The Office of the County Recorder (formerly Register of Deeds) is responsible for recording and processing all legal documents related to real estate. These documents include deeds, mortgages, assignments, satisfactions, liens, leases, plats, letters testamentary, patents, easements, and other related documents. (Mechanics Liens)
All recordings are open to the public during normal business hours.
A document presented for recording or filing must be sufficiently legible to reproduce a readable copy using the county recorders of title’s current method of reproduction.
We file all underground installation cards. North Dakota land survey monument records are filed in each individual county.
As custodians of vital records of the county, we have the responsibility of protecting and preserving the proof of rights of property ownership.
The Recorder’s office also issues Passports, handles county marriage licenses and can perform marriage ceremonies.
